Over the last half-decade, Big League Impact and its community of professional athletes, actors, musicians, and other public figures have raised over $3,000,000 for charitable causes and foundations through events ranging from annual Fantasy Football Leagues in cities across the country to karaoke sing-offs, March Madness Brackets, Digital Fantasy Contests, Dave & Buster’s game nights, and donations from local philanthropists who are drawn to the causes our players care about.
Big League Impact’s inaugural Fantasy Football event, Waino’s World, raised more than $110,000 for St. Louis area food bank Operation Food Search and international clean water engineering organization Water Mission . The year was so successful that the Wainwrights invited other professional baseball players to join them and host leagues in their hometowns.
In 2014, six leagues were launched by Wainwright, David Wright, Max Scherzer, Freddie Freeman, Justin Masterson and Skip Schumaker, and collectively, they raised more than $450,000 to benefit 20 non-profit organizations that provide desperately needed care in communities in the US and around the world.
2015 saw an expansion to eight cities, raising over $500,000, passed the $1,000,000 mark in total funds raised.
2017 launched the Striking Out Poverty initiative with Food for the Hungry, the first March Madness Bracket Challenge, and a karaoke event that raised nearly $50,000.
In 2018, Big League Impact oversaw 25 player-led initiatives that cleared the $3,000,000 mark of total raised, and inked an official partnership with Yahoo Fantasy Sports—becoming its official charitable partner. BLI also hosted its first three Dave & Buster’s game nights in Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Seattle, bringing out dozens of Big Leaguers who competed with fans while playing video game, skee-ball, and pop-a-shot basketball tournaments.
