Founded in 2013 by St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and his brother Trey Wainwright, Big League Impact Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to save lives, restore dignity and instill hope in our local communities and around the globe.
Our athletes raise money by allowing fans to participate in some of the contests they enjoy. Whether it is Fantasy Football, March Madness, singing karaoke or e-sports, BLI brings athletes, celebrities and fans together in a spirit of competitiveness and giving.
Our inaugural Fantasy Football event, Waino’s World, raised more than $110,000 which was distributed between a St. Louis area food bank Operation Food Search and an international clean water engineering organization Water Mission. The year was so successful that the Wainwright Brothers invited other professional baseball players to join them and host leagues in their home towns. The result is Big League Impact.
In 2014, six leagues were launched by Adam Wainwright, David Wright, Max Scherzer, Freddie Freeman, Justin Masterson and Skip Schumaker raised more than $450,000 to benefit 20 non-profit organizations that provide desperately needed care in communities here and around the world.
2015 saw us to expand to eight leagues, raising over $500,000, and all in we passed the 1 Million Dollar mark.
2017 has been a year of expansion as we have continued our new March Madness Bracket Challenge and our first karaoke event raised nearly $50,000. We are also expecting our Fantasy Football league to grow to 10 cities.
We have strict criteria for all events.
- Our staff’s overhead is covered directly by Adam Wainwright so we focus on creating events that allow us to donate 90% of all donations directly to the effective charity recipients.
- There must be a combination of athlete, musician, celebrity vs fans for each competition (ie; John Axford Oscars Challenge?)
- All charity recipients must prove to have an effective and measurable outcome with the funds received
